Downsizing is becoming more common these days. Houses are getting smaller and people just can’t afford to buy larger properties just so they can store things they don’t use terribly often. Others just want to downsize their lives and get rid of some of the less-often used things in their homes.
And that’s where we come in.
Like a Home-From-Home For Your Stuff
Whatever your reason (and there are many) for wanting to store things securely, we can help. We offer a range of competitively priced self-storage options and we always help you find the smallest, most efficient space, so you only pay for what you need. Our building is a traditionally built sandstone warehouse that is solid and secure – boasting state-of-the-art security to give you peace of mind.
Get Organised. Be Ruthless.
Take things room by room and be as tough as you can be. If there’s a flicker of doubt as to whether you should keep something or store it, pop it into storage – you can always bring it home if you miss it. We know you have an attachment to all the things in your house. But imagine how much nicer your house will be once there’s room in it again.
Get Help
Enlist the help of your family and friends. They might be slightly less attached to certain things and can help you decide what needs to go into storage (OK, cajole you into it, but the results will be amazing). As for their help and listen to them – they’ll apply logic without emotion to your belongings.
Write Lists
Try writing a list covering all your possessions. Go from room to room and see what you can easily do without. Split them into three categories:
- Things you’re keeping
- Things going into storage
- Things you can donate to charity
The hardest thing will be to get items from your ‘keeping’ list to your ‘storage’ list. If you can’t decide if you’ll need something try thinking of the last time you actually used it. If it’s more than a couple of months, be brave and stick it into storage. You can get it back whenever you need it and you can enjoy the extra space when it’s in storage.
Common Sense Stuff
Put heavier things at the bottom of boxes and lighter things on top. Make sure no box is too heavy to lift. Write on each side of each box what’s in it. Don’t overfill boxes – it makes them harder to stack (which could end up costing you more money). And keep a list of items you’ve stored so you can check what’s there without having to pop down to the storage facility each time.
