What items aren’t suitable for storing

Although, you can put most items into storage, there are some things that are just NOT suitable. We have noted these below in order to help save you time and energy while deciding your storage needs. These are as follows:

  1. Perishable items.

This may be obvious one, but any perishable items are not suitable for storage. This includes, bread, milk, meats or anything you would store in the fridge or freezer.  Within a matter of days, these can become rotten and start to decay, meaning that they can smell very bad and secrete unneeded liquid. Not to mention attract unwanted vermin! None of which is what you are wanting in your storage unit, and I bet your storage supplier wouldn’t be too happy either!

  1. Flammable, volatile, toxic, noxious or radioactive items.

If you are storing items such as lawn mowers or any other garden equipment, be sure that the fuel tanks are empty. If not, you could be potentially breaching your contract and running a serious risk.

  1. Animals

We hope it goes without saying that no animals should ever be kept in self storage facilities. Apart from the fact that it isn’t safe, it’s also not the right environment for an animal to be left. So, in future, leave Larry the Labrador or Gerry the Gerbil with a friend or family member.

  1. Illegal Goods

Again, this should go without saying, but no storage facility will allow any illegal or stolen goods to be stored in. This includes items such as drugs or explosive materials. Apart from the fact this is very dangerous, it is also illegal to be in possession of these items and the storage company have the right to inform the police.  It is also important to note that no business or trade should be carried out with the general public via the unit.

If you are ever unsure or want more information on what can or can’t be stored in storage facilities, just pick up the phone and ask one of the team- it’s better to be safe than sorry!
